EHC Projects

The Environmental Health Council (EHC) works alongside communities to identify, assess, and reduce environmental health risks around the world. Our projects combine rigorous science, local leadership, and lasting partnerships to create healthier environments for all. Each initiative is guided by our commitment to justice, data-driven solutions, and community empowerment.

To achieve this, we engage in community outreach and education, conduct environmental assessments, and develop demonstration projects that highlight scalable solutions. We prepare and disseminate reports and publications to raise awareness and inform action. Our team liaises with relevant authorities—such as Peru’s Ombudsman’s Office, Ministries of Health, Education, Environment, Mining and Energy, local and regional governments, and congressional bodies—to advocate for policy change and accountability. Through media outreach and sustained partnerships, we ensure that affected communities are not only heard but actively involved in shaping healthier, more just futures.

Current Projects

Huancavelica, Peru

Perched high in the Peruvian Andes, Huancavelica carries one of the heaviest toxic burdens in the world. Approximately 50,000 residents shoulder this toxic burden on a daily basis.

Legacy Millsites Initiative

For centuries, mercury from Huancavelica fueled silver and gold refining across present-day Peru, Bolivia, and Chile, leaving those regions with a widespread legacy of contamination.

Publications, Presentations, Reports, and Media

EHC identifies, evaluates, and remediates the impacts of environmental toxins in communities. Bringing together experts from fields such as public health, geochemistry, medicine, anthropology, and law, we create integrated, culturally relevant strategies to reduce toxic exposures and improve health and quality of life.
